Lastovo

The main settlement on the island. It lies 86 meters above the northern coast, on the edge of the arable field.
The port of Lastovo is located in the small, shallow cove St.Michael from where road goes to Ubli.Above the town is the hill with meteorological station and beautiful view on the eastern part of the island, small islands of Lastovčići, and on the island of Korčula. At the beginning of the 11th century, Venetians settled there the inhabitants of the older settlement that they destroyed in 998. The oldest architectural monument in the town is the Romanesque church of St.John in ruins. The parish church of SS. Kuzma and Damjan is from the 14th century. Inside the church you can see Pieta, the work of the unknown Venetian master from 1545. The loggia opposite to the chuech was built in the 15th century. At the entrance to the town is the church of St. Vlaho that was mantioned already in the 12th century. Not far from the town is also small Pre-Romanesque church of St. Luka from the 12th century. On the cemetery is small church of Our Lady in the Field from the 14th century. In the town of Lastovo people preserved picturesque national costume that they wear on the occasion of festivals and holidays.
