Trsteno
It is located 29 kilometers from Dubrovnik. It was named after reed (trstika) that grows in abundance in that area because of abundance of fresh water. It has rich vegetation and gentle Mediterranean climate. Since 1399 it is a part of the Republic of Dubrovnik. Two plane-tree on the square at the center of the village are more than 400 years old and they are the unique example of that species in Europe. In former summer residence of the Gučetić family, there is a large park that is the oldest planned renaissance park in Croatia (according to the inscription from 1502), and today, this is the location of the arboretum with abundance of exotic plants.
