Island Kakan
KAKAN, an uninhabited island in the group of islands in front of Sibenik; area 3.12 sq km (length 5.7 km, width up to 1.1 km). Kakan is separated from the island of Kaprije in the east by the Kakan channel. It is formed of limestone. A series of knolls ends in the south-east of the island. There is also the highest peak (112 m) of the island. In the valleys, where some red soil may be found, the inhabitants of the neighbouring island of Kaprije grow vines and olives; the rest of the island is covered with grasses and low underbrush. Along the north-eastern coast are the islets of Veli and Mali Borovnjak, along the south-eastern coast Veli and Mali Kamesnjak, and along the north-western coast a cliff called Mala Mare (Little Mary).
