Island Brac
The largest central Dalmatian island and the third largest on the whole Adriatic, with the area of 394.6 sq. kilometers. It is also the highest island on the Adriatic - 788 meters high Vidova gora is the highest island peak in Croatia. #$# Brač has about 14,000 inhabitants in 22 settlements. The climate is gentle, Mediterranean. The biggest settlements are Supetar and Pučišća. The main agricultural products are olive oil, wine and fruit (cherries and almonds), and recently some new cultures (kiwi). There are many sheep-farms and people are fishing, too. There are famous quarries (the famous stone from Brač) on the island near Pučišća, Selca, Postire, Splitska, and Donji Humac. The island has been inhabited since Neolithic, with numerous finds from the Bronze and Iron Age. The first known inhabitants are Illyrians. The Romans left numerous traces, both on the coast and in the inland: the stone quarries near Škrip were exploited during the reign of the emperor Diocletian. Today, Brač is one of the most developed islands on the Adriatic, considering tourism. It has airport and many tourist centers such as Bol, Supetar, Milna, etc.
