Zaostrog

The place between Makarska and Ploče. The older part is below steep mountain of Biokovo, and newer part is located along the low, sandy coast with pine forests and olive-grooves. It was probably inhabited already in the antiquity (epigraphic monuments and relief of the players).
On the coast is the Franciscan monastery from the 16th - 17th century, with cloister. In the church there are baroque marble altar, baroque wooden chorus, and grave stone of Andrija Kačić-Miošić. The monastery has old library and rich archive. There is an antique mosaic in the garden.
