The island with the area of 22.3 sq. kilometers is mostly covered with bare rocks, except the small part in the north-west. The sheepfarming is developed, and inhabitants also deal in sand digging. The largest settlement is Vir. On the peak of St. Juraj, you can see the remains of an Illyrian hillfort and the bases of a small Pre - Romanesque church with one nave.
