Fazana

Situated eight kilometers from Pula, it is the starting point for excursion to the Bijuni archipelago (the National Park). The reception desk and the offical entrance in the National Park are in Fažana and you should also leave your car there because you go to the islands by boat (20 minutes ride).
In the Roman times, Fažana was the center of the pottery production. The church of St. Elizej with one nave was built in the 6th century. In the church of St. Mary of Karmel from the 14th century there are the Gothic wall paintings from the 15th century, and in the parish church of SS. Kuzma and Damjan, there are Gothic portal and Renaissance wall paintings. The remains of the Roman villa from the 1st century AD, richly ornamented with mosaics, were discovered in the Ribnjak bay, 2 km from Fažana.
