Labin
Situated above Rabac that is only 5 km away, 320 meters above the sea level. The old part of the town is on the hill (Labin), and the newer, mining settlement is below (Podlabin). The town on the hill is the best preserved acropolic settlement in Istria and the famous resort (43 kilometers from Pula and 60 kilometers from Rijeka). Labin stands on the location of the prehistoric hillfort that later became the Roman Albona. In the 17th century it spreads beyond the town walls. The oldest part of the settlement still has the medieval fortification. In front of the town gates from 1587 is the square with the town loggia from 1662 (renovated in 1777) in which is collection of stone monuments. The church of St. Mary of Health, in front of Labin is characteristic because of the porch addition and has valuable art collection. The Praetorian palace is from the 15th century, and present museum is in the Battiala-Lazzarini Palace from the 18th century. In the middle of the 17th century, the Franković-Vlačić family builds in Dubova, the village below Labin, the most representative countory villa with outhouses (stancia), surrounded with a high wall.
