Lies on the top of the hill, 277 meters above the sea level, 21 kilometers from Buje. People in surrounding area produce high quality wines (teran and malvazija), fruits and vegetables. Motovun is the famous excursion destination, well connected with the coast and the inland. The settlement developed on the location of a prehistoric citadel. The oldest center of the town is surrounded by well preserved fortification wall from the 13th and 14th century, that today serves as a promenade with unique view on the surrounding area. On the main square you can see the bell-tower from the 13th century. Next to it is the Renaissance church of St. Stjepan, built at the beginning of the 17th century. The Renaissance palace-castle has been reconstructed from the 16th to the 19th century. Under the whole sqare there are the reservoirs of the town cistern and you can see still preserved stone mouths of that cistern are from the 14th and 15th century. The churches of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Gates and St. John Baptist, were built in 1521.
