Vrh

VRH, a village in the north of the central part of Istria, 15 km southwest of Buzet; elevation 396 m; population 137. Economy is based on farming, viniculture, olive growing and livestock breeding. Favourable climatic conditions provide high yields in vineyards and olive-groves. A local road connects Vrh with Buzet.
The settlement was first mentioned in 1195; in 1231 it was a parish. Upon the Venetian conquest in 1508, it became one of the boundary fortifications of the so-called Rasporski Captaincy (until 1797). The parish church of St. Mary, a Gothic structure, with the regional type of front elements for the church bells, was later extended; the church houses a figurally adorned stone tabernacle from 1463, a work by Benko from Socerga, as well as an aspergillum with the Glagolitic inscription of the year 1552.
