Island Susak

The small island opposite to Lošinj, with the area of 3.8 sq kilometers, almost completely covered with vineyards. The only settlement is the village of the same name, located on the eastern coast. It consists of the older part on the sand plateau, and the new part near the coast. Beside vineyards, the inhabitants are also fishermen. It is the famous excursion destination because of the sand beaches and picturesque national costume.
The island was inhabited already in Roman times. The Benedictine monastery from the 11th century was located near the present village church. The inhabitants live in isolation and they preserved interesting old customs connected with weddings, grape-gathering and carnival.
It has a daily ship connection with Mali Lošinj. There is also the possibility of private accommodation.
For nautical tourists: coves Draguća and Porat.
