Located in hinterland between Rijeka and Opatija, on the altitude of around 380 meters. It is the medieval town-fort with preserved cultural monuments: town gates, town loggia from 1571, small baroque church, Gothic church from the 15th century, captain's residence (present school), the baroque parish church from 1709 with valuable inventory. In 1866, the first Croatian reading club in Istria was founded in Kastav. Kastav well preserved its folklore heritage and it is famous of its performances ("Bela nedilja", "Zvoncari").
