Licki Osik

LICKI OSIK, a town in the central part of Lika, on the rim of Licko Polje (Lika Field), 7 km north-east of Gospic; elevation 579 m; population 2,885. In the 20th century called Osik. Chief occupations are farming and metal industry. Situated at the intersection of the main road (M5) Otocac - Gospic and the regional road to Korenica as well as on the railroad Zagreb - Split.
The old part of the town developed along the road, and the new one around the factory of metal products.
In the small village of Novosalije a prehistoric burial ground was excavated, with eight earth tumuli (16th - 15th c. BC). The parish church of St. Joseph was erected in 1842.
