The small town 45 kilometers south-east from Rijeka on the Adriatic Road. The diverse Mediterranean vegetation, clear sea and swimming beaches, made it established and famous tourist center. It was inhabited already in Roman times, while in the Middle Ages, it is the fortified town of the prince from the Frankopan family. That is where Vinodolski zakon (the Vinodol Law) was made in 1288 and written in the Glagolitic script. It is one of the most important documents of the Croatian custom law in the Middle Ages. Today, it is kept in the National University Library in Zagreb. The memorial fountain was raised on the 700th anniversary of Vinodolski zakon. The other preserved monuments are the church of SS. Fabijan and Sebastijan, and the citadel of the Frankopans from the 13th century, where Vinodolski zakon was signed in 1288, and today it houses the museum has large collection of various objects from the antiquity, written documents and the medieval ornaments. It also has the ethnographic collection.
