Selce

The typical coastal small town, known as the children resort. It lies in a picturesque cove and the walking path along the sea connects it with Crikvenica. It was mentioned as a part of Bribir in 1366. Selce was probably formed on the location of the Roman settlement Ad Turres, what was confirmed by the numerous object that were found there. In the 19th century it rapidly develops: the shipping and olivegrowing was developed, and tourism began already at the end of the 19th century. It has been mentioned as >>the nice resort near Crikvenica <<, and in 1894 >>Zadruga morskog kupališta<< (tourist company) was founded in Selce in order to build the first public swimming beach in the port, with 10 cabins.
At the beginning of 1903, the first postcards of Selce were printed, and "Rokan", the first hotel, was built in 1911. There is a preserved cistern in the town, built in 1796, and toč (the old olive mill) that was proclaimed a cultural monument and today it houses a gallery.
